Andrew Darlow (right) with three attendees from a recent (and very similar) three hour semi-private workshop at Xact Studios. A selection of prints made by the participants are displayed on the table. SoLux lamps and bulbs with a range of color temperatures can be seen above the table. They are used during workshops to illuminate the prints and to show the visual differences one may encounter when displaying art in galleries, homes and other locations.
In this three hour workshop, you will have at least one hour to work with Andrew Darlow on a group of prints of your work,
and three hours to supervise Andrew during the proofing and printmaking process as he works with you and no more than two other participants. The
13-inch-wide Epson Styus Color R2880, 17-inch-wide Epson Stylus Pro 3800 and 44-inch-wide Epson Stylus Pro
9900 printers will be used during the workshop, and attendees may choose which of the three printers they would like to use for their prints.
Either Photoshop CS4 and/or Adobe Lightroom 2 may be chosen by each participant to be used during the proofing, layout and printing process.
Each attendee will also receive at least 100 sheets of fine-art inkjet paper for testing, as well as a workshop binder and PDF with links to more info. The binder includes the same information that attendees receive for Andrew Darlow's full day workshops.
Attendees will select from a group of semi-gloss, fiber semi-gloss and matte/watercolor surfaces and may choose a size/quantity of final prints from the list below (#1-4). Proof prints may be made for each participant prior to making the final prints.
1. Three 8.5x11 and two 13x19 prints.
2. Two 13x19 prints and one 17x22 print.
3. Two 17x22 prints.
4. One 13x19 and one 24x30 print
Papers available will include the following:
Available for 24x30 prints: Epson Premium Luster and Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk
Available for sizes up to 17x22: Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper; Ilford Galerie Gold Fibre Silk; Hahnemühle Fine Art Pearl; Inkpress Baryta Warmtone 290; Epson Premium Luster; Inkpress Rag Warmtone 300 and Hahnemuhle Museum Etching.
In addition, many papers from Epson, Ilford, Innova, Moab, PremierArt, Red River, and other companies will be available in 8.5x11 inch size for the workshop.

One section of Xact Studios with an Epson Stylus Pro 9900, i1-iSis Spectrophotometer, Apple Mac Pro, 30" Apple Cinema Display, Wacom Cintiq and the X-Rite Judge II-S Viewing Booth, capable of simulating daylight, cool-white fluorescent, incandescent and UV (great for checking whether papers contain optical brighters).
An Apple Mac Pro and 30" Apple Cinema Display will be used for retouching and printing to the Epson Stylus Pro 9900 and Epson Stylus Pro 3800, and a Windows machine will be connected to the Epson Styus Color R2880 for those who wish to see a workflow using Photoshop CS4 for Windows and the Windows Vista driver.
Gallery-quality SoLux lighting will be used in many ways to help attendees see the many differences that can be seen with different color temperature bulbs, bulb distance and intensity (wattage), beam spreads and the effects of mixed lighting or multiple fixtures.
Session 1,2 or 3 Fee: $197 (plus $100 materials fee)- Register above via credit card (a PayPal account is not required)

Comments from a recent attendee (pictured third from the left in the photograph at the top of the page):
"Thanks Andrew! The workshop was fantastic. I think your teaching skills, as well as your knowledge, are truly remarkable. To compliment that, in a setting like Xact Studios, a workshop becomes an incredible event. I'd recommend the workshop to those who want to uplift their printing skills as well as their knowledge of Photoshop and color management."
-Ed Livernoche, Professional Photographer
Comments from two recent workshop attendees (pictured left in the photograph at the top of the page):
"Our goal was to learn to print better than we currently could and our goals were more than met. Mary had little experience while I could print fairly well. Andrew's presentations were clear, concise and free of "jargon" that you sometime run into at workshops.
He answered all questions in a way that was clearly understood and made sure that you did understand. The hands-on portion was well done and we both came away with a knowledge that we would be able to greatly improve our printing ability. We highly recommend his programs!"
-Tom and Mary Keifer
